Container Project – Spam 03 Rome International Festival of Architecture

The Rome Architecture Festival SPAM 03 saw the inauguration of the “Container Project” installation designed and built by ias: atelier, which aims to provide a space that increases participants’ awareness of sustainability and reuse, some of the festival’s core concepts.

The design of the installation

The installation is visually permeable and made almost entirely of cardboard. The structure is given by tubes of pressed cardboard, while its hexagonal modules are made of corrugated cardboard, all resting on a wooden base. The vertical structure made of pressed cardboard binds the hexagonal modules by constraining them from horizontal and vertical thrusts, actively cooperating with the modules.

The flexibility of the structure

The framework is designed for flexibility in space, form and use, adapting to spaces of various sizes. The purpose of the framework is to provide a massifiable offering that does not constrain aesthetic and functional choices. Respecting the environment and offering an economically sustainable solution with near-zero impact.

The use of the installation

In the case of the SPAM 03 festival, the installation hosted debates, sponsoring innovative products, interviews, and reasoning about architecture, design, and sustainability. The installation thus played an important role in educating the public about sustainability and the importance of reusing materials.

The now 3 former mayoral candidates Gualtieri, Raggi and Calenda also received one, but unfortunately no one ever knew what happened to them.
